Fylde Farm

Fylde Farm School (Approved) at Normoss farm opened, run by the Manchester and Salford Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Offenders. Th e school had been started in 1854 as an industrial school. Plans to build a new housing development and holiday village on the site of the former Fylde farm school, Normoss Road, have been passed by Wyre planners. The development plan, which includes 162 new homes, holiday accommodation, offices, education and conference facilities, a fishing lodge, swimming pool, gym and a large country park, was given the go ahead at the meeting yesterday. The proposal was submitted by Lytham-based Kensington Developments. The holiday village, including a country park, lakes and accommodation will be used by the Kensington Foundation, a Blackpool-based charity which promotes the relief of homelessness and poverty and provides holidays for families of children with terminal illness. Yates Fire .... 2009

It is a building which has mattered since it opened as The Theatre Royal and Assembly Rooms in 1868, later becoming the Free Library in 1880. Today we know it as Yates's, the wine lodge founded by Peter Yates, who, having rented part of the premises two years earlier, bought the freehold of the famous octagonal building in 1896. It's effectively an island, bordered by Talbot Road, Clifton Street and Abingdon Street, the estate mapped out by Thomas Clifton in the early 19th century, a doctor's house being here in the 1840s. Tram Tracks & Toilets updated !!! ( part two ! )

Following on from my last post on the works going on in town - have a gander to bring yourself up to speed... https://juliettegregsonheritagephotographer.blogspot.com/2018/05/tram-tracks-toilets.html Realised that at some point Wilkinson's will be going which is such a great spot to get shots from ...and cheap parking as well !   Had some Christmas Vouchers so ventured into town and of course took my camera with me .. As with all good stories we shall start in January ! A blog about what I have been up too, the ups and downs, sad times, places visited and photo's taken and achievements !  January saw me placing a picture in the now annual Grundy Art Gallery 2018 exhibition, little did I know that I was one of only six that sold !  It was also my Birthday this month and Guy & I went for a meal at the RED Lion in Bispham ...lets just say I will not be spending my money there again !! Well I owed the Lapis Crew a guest talk from a few years ago and was delighted that I would be attending the same event with the very delightful Jenny Randles.
