Kings Christian Centre, Warley Road , Blackpool... 2011 to 2020...

  So in 1897 Warley Road Congregational Church, Blackpool: This temporary church, on the corner of Warley Road and Gynn Avenue was founded: the members of the Victoria Congregational Church had raised £2,096 in their Jubilee fund which was used to establish the Warley Road church.  Renamed as Claremont Congregational Church was then opened there on the 30 th of August 1901. The chapel cost £5,000 and the land another £1,000. It was built by the Mayor, Alderman T H Smith, from the designs of Anderson, Simon, and Crawford, architects, of Edinburgh. The church was not consecrated until 1932. The Claremont Congregational Lecture Hall and Assembly Rooms opened on the 18 th of March 1908. In 1972, the church became the Claremont United Reformed Church , but closed in 1994. The building later became the Kings Christian Centre , but this had closed down by 2014. It was demolished in October 2017, to be replaced by 15 apartments.  ( extra information by Nick Moore )  ...

Demolition date for Blackpool Wilko confirmed !!

Blackpool Council has said that it will take around five months to bring down the former Dickson Road store and car park.  I was lucky enough to be givern permission back in March to take interior shots ( glad I did before the official closing date due to lockdown ! ) Blackpool Council has confirmed that work will begin on the demolition of the town centre Wilko store in August this year.  ( however doesn't say which end of August - one bets that it will be the end to match when all the school's reopen.. )  After months of uncertainty around when work will commence on bringing down the derelict store and attached car park, the next stage of the plan has been laid out. The most recent announcement outlines the next phase of the Talbot Gateway regeneration scheme. Talbot Gateway - Contractors approved NEWS !

Robertson Construction has been given the go-ahead to start demolition work next week for phase two of Blackpool’s £100m Talbot Gateway city centre regeneration. This phase will see the town’s existing Wilko store torn down, the completion of the new tramway interchange at Blackpool North Station, a new underpass, a four-star Holiday Inn hotel and restaurant, and new retail outlets. Robertson Construction Group has been appointed jointly by Blackpool Council and development partner, Muse Developments to carry out construction work which is expected to take around two years. Making Blackpool Better – town centre improvement works ! January update Promenade closure The re-opening of Blackpool Promenade around North Pier has been put back to allow for snagging works to be carried out on roadworks associated with the new tramway extension. The stretch of road between West Street and Queens Square was due to reopen on Monday 21 January but will now remain closed until the end of February. The delay does not affect the completion date of all other roadworks associated with the tramway extension. Talbot Road works The works on Talbot Road between the Promenade and Dickson Road are on schedule for completion by the end of the February 2019. The junction of Abingdon Street and Talbot Road remains open. Signed diversion routes remain in place and there is pedestrian access to all businesses which are open as usual.
