How many times have you sat at Carleton waiting, wanting the train to be quuick so you can be on your way! Guessing which way the train wouuld be going... Carleton Crossing signal box is a London and North Western Railway
Type 5 design which was built by the London Midland and Scottish Railway
and opened in 1924 fitted with a 16 lever Lancashire and Yorkshire
Railway Tappet frame, replacing an earlier box. The frame was reduced to
12 levers at some time and the level crossing gates were replaced by
lifting barries in November 1977 - I was lucky enough to be allowed the wrong side of the tracks to capture images before it was gone for good ....
Blackpool North this time, I did not trespass either ! I had permission and never crossed onto the train tracks !
Poulton below 2017 - You may be wondering why has Juliette watermarked some of these ? Certain individuals have the dreadful manners and just lift said photo's and pass off as their own... ( sorry )
Rail services between Blackpool and Preston will be disrupted for 18 weeks while upgrade works are completed.
The
17-mile route is to be electrified and work is being carried out on
Blackpool North and Kirkham and Wesham stations during the closure.
The work is part of the £1bn Great North Rail Project to upgrade links across northern England by 2022.

When we lived in Cyprus and were looking for a property to buy ready for our return to the UK, Layton Station house actually caught our eye and our imagination.... We looked at the photos and yes, sadly it needed quite a lot of work doing to make it livable and then we had our 2 dogs to consider too.
ReplyDeleteSo, much as we would have loved it - we had to let that idea go... Did it ever sell?
I don't think it did - trying to find out some more information !! ( maybe a tiny railway museum ! ?!
